From the Author

In writing Power Yoga for Dummies,” I was inspired to present a user friendly guide to the science, art and practice of Power Yoga. This book was written in a time when only a few realized- that this new style of yoga practice could build strength and muscles, while still preserving relaxation and mental clarity.

My first book- Yoga Helps,” printed in 1976, was inspired after I was involved in a terrible car wreck, which allowed me to see- problems can be gifts in disguise. Because of my accident I realized the true value of healing, and gratitude for simplicity- subtly laced into the teachings of yoga practice. This new-found perception allowed me to publish one of the first yoga books in the U.S. to introduce Ashtanga Yoga, along with a softer style of yoga practice.

My third book- Mastering Secrets of Yoga Flow,” is an evolution of my pervious publications, and expresses an essential need to allow yourself freedom to grow, to change, and to expand your practice. This book places immense value of the movements between each asana, as being just as important as the yoga pose itself. There is a saying, “The journey is everything,” and this allows you to learn value of your past, and direction for your future.

My fourth, and most recent book- Pioneering Vinyasa Yoga,” Is a reflection within the evolution of yoga practice, starting from a time when yoga was not as popular or accepted, and arriving to the present. This wonderful book offers a beautiful presentation, which is mindfully laced into heartfelt philosophy. This book includes all aspects of a holistic practice – with balanced practice routines, healthy nutrition, and pranayama, along with meditation and intriguing stories. The priceless wisdom in this book is organically cultivated, and vastly inspiring.—Doug Svenson
